“Journalism isn’t a profession” they said.

Every profession calls for its own pros and cons right? You know being from a different field, it’s damn easy to judge the other field. Yes because I too have done that. Yeah! *Guilty*! The problem is I was provoked to because obviously one can’t just keep gulping whatever you put on their plate, if I am choked I have to eventually put some into your mouth as well. That’s a obvious human tendency. So, professions holds a mammoth category isn’t so?

Talk about commerce backgrounds, talk about science backgrounds, design, then this Journalism, humanities, and on and on and on. Basically it’s an ocean, and we, are the swimmers. Talk about mathematics and I might get a panic attack but look at those commerce students tallying balance sheets? I mean how? Before you judge I know there’s a difference between accountancy and mathematics and my very own sister being an accountancy hons. student, whenever solved maths or sat with her accountancy books, both resembled as Greek to me! Seriously.

I can barely fix bits and pieces of maybe the grinder or the inverter and also the TV we have only when there’s a minor issue. Look at the engineers! They have answers to more than we know even exists. Switching on and off a light is all I know but these engineers, will brief you on everything that only you think is normal and works ‘normally.’

Damn I barely remember the names of my subjects but no wonder how these doctors rightly remember what nerves they’ve to work on, which tissue or organ plays what role, I mean look at every profession and they’ve something new to show you.

It’s a myth that only ‘brilliant’ students opt for science and commerce and the mediocre students are reserved for Humanities. That’s just not the case! You opt for science because either it’s your choice or it’s this race you want to participate in or it’s been put into your head that there’s no style of living without science or commerce.

One random example is of Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon who are engineers but chose to pursue acting as their career and there’re still people who think film and television schools or colleges have nothing to serve on plates as all they do is acting! Suuuure!!!!! Not every English literature student is a boring person and becomes an English professor, and Ayushmaan Khurana is one such example! Seriously Google told me he was an English literature student!

Guys the problem is we only tend to accept what we’ve been told right from the beginning. Even in my college, there have been people who do not really approve of design and journalism college because they think all they do is either roam around with a camera or keep submitting their sketches. Let me tell you one thing, facing the cameras and raising one’s voice in right sense is actually not everybody’s cup of tea. Similarly, designing piles of dresses isn’t something any random engineer or doctor can do or even I can think of doing.

The whole point is, there’s a saying you know- If you haven’t learnt to respect professions you ain’t familiar to, you must be lying if you say you rightly respect your very own profession as well. Take that!!! Its been a while that I’ve been dealing with people who do not know the ‘J’ of Journalism but are a step ahead when it comes to criticizing this profession.

Okay so just to mention, that whatever you look for on a daily basis, is what a journalist does. The only reason today you all came together to appreciate the doctors out there is because even the potential journalists had put in their sweat and sleepless days and nights to make sure you’re thoroughly aware of that.

Imagine a world without Journalists! Okay? Let’s just forget the journalists! Who would’ve served the gravity of this serious deadly pandemic on your plates? What do you think? The common people would’ve kept you timely updated? If I may assume, the doctors? Still to what extent? Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself would’ve come to your house or would’ve sent his left hands to alert you about the lockdown? The meteorological dept. people would’ve left their work and rushed to the millions of population of Bengal to alert them on Amphan that too during this pandemic? Who would’ve told you your favourite celeb is no more? Their families? Who would’ve told you the victory of your favourite football player? Their opponents?
We, as so called responsible citizens, do not give a damn about if the migrant workers shall ever make it to their respective places, forget that, do you really care about how many are dead? All you care about is your boredom, your tantrums for good food plans to goa and then post stories showing how disheartened you are on receiving such news flashes but let’s talk about who lets you put those stories?

bdGuys you know what? You can only criticize journalists because it’s just out there! It’s media come on! If they’re doing something worth a hundred claps, it’s there, if they do something that turns the tables it’s there. But but but do not tell me apart from the media industry no other industry has its cons. Every and every profession is corrupted no matter how hard you try to cover it up. The reason I kind of focused on this profession is because It’s the highest time you realize that Journalism isn’t some circulation of fake Whatsapp messages! It is what you see Barkha Dutt is doing, it is what you see Fayed D Souza doing!

There’s a reason why professions have categories otherwise everybody could’ve done everything! The only fault of these journalists are that they put forth the truth! What? The truth! And every, every citizen of this nation cannot gulp that because lets accept it, that’s a human tendency! We only wish to hear what we want to.

And that’s exactly what a Journalist never does and that’s exactly you get the audacity to criticize them. Just take a deep breath, and question yourselves, along with the doctors, along with the police officials, who are working their asses off? Till date, who have risked their lives to cover every and every deadly happening in and around the world? You have the answers but most of you won’t admit!

Every single profession carries its own beauty, its very own charm. Let me remind you, every profession is interdependent. Stop wearing clothes if you fail to understand the role of designers! I can’t even dare to challenge an automobile engineer regarding how much I know about cars and an aeronautical engineer when it comes to describing an aircraft! I only Know I love Vistara Airlines because it’s colour is so good and it serves great food and rest all other flights are comfortable. Honestly there was a time when I wanted to become a Pilot because damn they look so good and they’re so smart dude! But when I looked into the details, I freaked out when google showed me the cockpit and with parts mentioned in details. I don’t even know the ‘E’ of editing and trust me I really envy some of my friends who are into sharp videography and photography!

So that’s what my point is, if you think wisely and with a less complicated open mind, you’ll realize every profession is actually interdependent and deserves the same amount of respect that any other profession deserves. and this fact clearly doesn’t depend on if you believe this or not. If you still don’t learn to respect that, I’m sorry to say your profession doesn’t deserve to have someone like you! Look around, there’s a lot to learn and appreciate.
